According to a new study, compared to other large metropolitan areas, Milwaukee, Waukesha area ranks in the top five nationally for rental affordability. Hi, I’m Rich Barnes, owner/broker of Realty Experts in West Allis, Wisconsin, 53214. And the pandemic led to significant changes in rent prices across the country with major metropolitan areas like New York City, seeing sharp decreases in population as workers went remote and discovered that they could work anywhere and work remotely. And smaller cities like Boise, Idaho seen increases in people flocking over the border from California. Yet, amidst these changes, Milwaukee has remained relatively affordable, according to recent data. Milwaukee is also, the seventh most affordable metropolitan area for home buyers according to the American Enterprise Institute. A recent piece from Bloomberg opinion comparing the average cost of rent with medium area wages found that Milwaukee ranked fifth place out of 15 large metropolitan areas for affordability. And according to move.org, it’s the 22nd best cost of living out of the top 75 cities in the United States. While Milwaukee is known as a City of Festivals, it offers competitive cost of living. Community organizers say that progress still needs to be made on overall affordability for lower income populations, but if you’re looking for a great place to live right on the coast of one of the Great Lakes Waterways, Lake Michigan, you’ll find that Milwaukee and surrounding areas is a great place to live, renting or buying a home, with many things to do.
